How to: Measure your firebox
Fireplaces openings must be measured to 1/16 of an inch for accuracy. For custom-made screens or enclosures,
it could be a costly mistake to you, the customer.
Please use a TAPE MEASURE when measuring for better accuracy.
ARCHES: If you have an arched fireplace we will need the following measurements from you.
1.) Measure the width of the opening at the base.
2.) Measure from the base to the highest point at the top of the arch and finally,
3.) measure the sides from the base to just before where the arch starts.
* A card board template accompanying your measurements, (especially if your fireplaces has a stone front/face or is constructed
of stone!) would be ideal. If you have an unusually shaped fireplace or rough field stone fireplace we can verify
the measurements for you. (Please call one of our stores for details, zones and pricing.)
* To make a good template you will need a large piece of cardboard, and a Sharpe.
* Cut a hole in the middle of the cardboard. Hold flat against the outside opening of the fireplace.
With your sharpie trace all sides of the inner opening. Before you remove the cardboard from in front of the
fireplace opening, on the cardboard that is facing you, write front. (very important)
Also right your name, address and phone number on the template.
An up front measuring fee, or deposit (if placing an order or purchasing a custom
glass enclosure) .
This fee is based upon distance from our Hyannis location.
Cape Cod: call 508-775-2511 for current measuring fee prices.
Off Cape: call 781-829-2252 for current measuring fee prices.

Measuring brick to brick of the firebox opening itself. Write down these measurements:
top width: ________
bottom width: ________
left height: ________
right height: ________
If you have a damper knob on the outside of your fireplace, measure
from the top of the opening to the damper knob ________ (in its vertical position).
Note: Not everyone has a
damper control on the outside of the fireplace.
( See drawing for details.)

FIREBACKS: Using a measuring tape, not a yardstick or a ruler,
measure the width of the BACK WALL floor of the firebox
Next, measure the height of the BACK WALL from the floor up to the bricks
before they start to angle back towards you, the damper and/or the chimney.
You might want to measure the depth of your firebox too. From the back of the
firebox,
measure out to the front part of the firebox.
Do NOT include the hearth depth in your measurement.
There is a possibility of taking a larger sized fireback due to considerable depth of your firebox.

GAS LOGS: For purchases only placed through our Hyannis or North Pembroke
location.
There are three (3) measurements we need to determine what size log set would fit best in your fireplace.
Keep in mind, all measurements are firebox FLOOR measurements.
Using a tape measure, measure the back wall width on the firebox floor
(shown with blue arrows). Next, measure the front opening width of the firebox (shown with green arrows).
Lastly, measure the depth of the firebox floor starting from about the middle of the back wall towards
the front of the firebox opening (shown with red arrows).
GRATES: Follow the above directions to determine what size grate your firebox can accomodate.
We carry over 20 different sizes and styles in stock.
That's all you need. Bring these measurements with you.
